Cold and Flu Busting Elderberry Gummies – Your Kids Will Love!

IMG_2222

This post may be coming out at an odd time.  Summer is not the time flu shots are being announced and promoted on every corner or where everyone you know is getting sick.  However, how many of us have contracted a summer cold?  I know I have numerous time and they are the worst!  It is beautiful out and I’ve been stuck indoors feeling horrible!  Thankfully, we rarely get sick any more, which I completely attribute to our lifestyle, we focus on wellness.

Elderberries are like a little gifts from above!  They are teeny tiny berries that pack a very powerful punch and really boost our immune systems with their vitamins and are also full of antioxidants, which fight free radicals (Hello beautiful skin!). The bioflavonoids in elderberry attack the cold and flu viruses, preventing them from invading our cells and thus kicking any virus out of our body. This is why I am in love with them and always have a jar made in my refrigerator.  I will take some at the first sign of a cold and/or take it DAILY during cold and flu season, and of course my kids love their “medicine” too!

However, I found a new and fun way to get their daily dose of goodness in… Gummies!  This was actually my twins first experience with gummy type “candy” since we are an unprocessed family (no candy here!), they had to get used to a new texture!  Elderberry syrup and gummies contain raw honey, my favorite sweetener!  Natural Healthezine states, “Raw honey contains 27 minerals, 22 amino acids and 5,000 live enzymes. It keeps you healthy by fighting disease and boosting the digestive system. One daily spoonful in your tea or spread on your toast is all that is needed to reap these benefits.”  Not only that, you can even place raw honey onto cuts and wounds to help heal them with its antiseptic benefits!  Another little gift from above, I believe!

“My son, eat honey, for it is good. Yes, the honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.” Proverbs 24:13

Yes, even our maker recommends honey and back then, it was surely raw! The last main ingredient in our Elderberry gummies is gelatin!  Although in some communities, it is controversial, gelatin has amazing health benefits!  It is made from ligaments, tendons, and bones from animals, which is why I make sure to use a great grass-fed source, Great Lakes Gelatin.  I firmly believe that if you kill it, you eat it, and I mean by eat it, use all of it!  Most people don’t even know what they are eating, but if you have had jello, gummy bears or marshmallows, you have had gelatin!  The good news is, gelatin is amazing for us!  It not only fight wrinkles (NATURAL ANTI-AGING), but also help with arthritis and other joint issues we get.

These elderberry gummies contain all that goodness and are great for even our little loves.  Their growing bodies need all the help they can get too!  And another bonus I even snuck in some probiotics for gut health.

I had some pre-made elderberry syrup in the refrigerator! I love having some on hand... just in case! This brand, Solaray, is a great brand for probiotics.
