Homemade Shaving Lotion

Homemade shaving lotion

Why make your own shaving lotion?  There are so many to choose from out on the market.  But, did you know most are filled with toxic and cancer causing chemicals?  Body products such as shaving creme, lotion, shampoo’s, diaper paste and deodorant filled with chemicals such as parabens, petroleum, phthalates, and many more (which you can read about HERE)! It is really scary!

Although, we shouldn’t live in fear, it is very important to take charge our health, do our research, read ingredients and either make your own body products or find naturally made products to purchase!  However, I find that making my own body products, is much more cost effective, are simple to make and not only that, they work great and I love the way they feel on my skin… and my kids (I make their diaper cream and body butter).

Homemade Shaving Lotion

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup Raw shea butter (buy here)
  • 2/3 cup Extra virgin coconut oil (buy here)
  • 1/2 cup Sweet almond oil (buy hereor Jajoba (buy here)
or even extra virgin olive oil works
  • 15-20 drops of essential oil of choice (I love eucalyptus, lavender, rose and lemon)
For this batch I used a combination of Ivory (pictured) and gold raw shea, both are great but I prefer the ivory's color. Add the Shea butter and coconut oil to a double boiler.

Remove from heat and add in your light oil of choice and essential oils. You can either place in the refrigerator to cool and solidify or just leave it out for a few hours.

This lotion leaves my legs silky smooth and I do not need to apply lotion after.  I always try to dry brush before my shower and this shave cream makes the perfect addition for my sensitive and thirsty skin.
