My REAL and HONEST Experience with The Ultimate Reset Cleanse

Ultimate Reset Cleanse

I started it with great intentions.  I wanted to cleanse my body from all the abuse I put it through years prior, to give my “liver a break,” to remove the toxins that have been built up in my body to hopefully ensure I do not get cancer so I can live a long life for my kids.  This is why I started the Ultimate Reset, but I got a little more than I bargained for…  this is my real and honest experience with this program.

The claims or purpose of the Beach Body Ultimate Reset are to “increase energy, lose weight, and lower your cholesterol in 21 days. In just 3 weeks, the Beachbody Ultimate Reset™ will help your body get rid of the toxins you’ve been taking in for decades. This gentle, no-starvation cleanse helps restore your body to its optimal “factory settings,” so you can feellook, and be healthier than before.”  Well, let me tell you, this is not my experience at all.  I have been searching and searching for someone else with a similar experience and I have come up empty.

The first week (cleanse) started out well, as anticipated.  We (my husband and I) were so pumped to get started.  The program provides you with shopping lists menu’s and supplements to keep you on track.  It is a “no starvation” cleanse and you do eat real food.  However, they suggest you stop working out intensely because your body does an “internal workout” cleansing itself from impurities.  By day four, I felt flu-ish.  My body ached all over, I was nauseated, and exhausted (that happens when your body pulls toxins out and are released into your bloodstream to be eliminated).  I knew at that point this system really worked. It motivated me to keep moving forward, as hard as it was.  I lost five lbs the first week.

Week two (detox) was a little more difficult.  The menu consists of mainly vegetables and fruits, with little to no protein.  I was very hungry, irritable, and tired.  It was not easy.  I pushed through for the sake of completing what I started. I lost two more pounds.ultimate Reset cleanse

Week three (restore) was the hardest.  Food was scarce.  Again, little to no protein, and mainly fruits and vegetables.  I was very hungry.  I believe my body went into starvation mode and I only lost one pound, for a total of eight, although weight loss was not my goal here. I truly just wanted to cleanse my body of toxins that could potentially cause cancer, and I DO feel like I accomplished that Goal.

My Before and After (I almost didn’t want to post these because weight loss was not my goal)

Day 21

It is true that toxins get stored in our body fat.  As a former cigarette smoker, (I smoked for six years and I quit on September 11, 2001), I had more desire than ever to cleanse.  But the outcome for me and my body was not what I expected.

Throughout the Ultimate Reset, I kept waiting for this “energy surge” to happen, which everyone kept talking about.  It never came for me.  The entire time I was exhausted (which I wasn’t before I began).  After the UR was over, I started eating “normal” again, I kept waiting for my energy to return, it never did.  I lost all my energy.  I had no energy to workout, I barely could go for a walk, and even the thought of cooking or making dinner overwhelmed me!  I could barely keep up with one of my friends who was pregnant in her third trimester!  What happened!?

The past four months have been extremely difficult for me.  I have felt very ill.  I though cannot say that for sure it was the Ultimate Reset or not, everything in my body began going haywire at that time.  Thankfully, I found an amazing doctor that looks for the root cause and doesn’t just treat the symptoms.  Although, I felt depressed (there were days I couldn’t get out of bed for lack of energy), some doctors would have just given me an antidepressant, I wasn’t.  I was diagnosed with anemia or low ferritin levels (ferritin was at 17 and should be 100), low in Vitamin D (34 and should be 50), low in progesterone, and also had low adrenals (which can be caused from stress on the body aka the Ultimate Reset Cleanse), my cycles also started becoming irregular again.

Late September I began a new regimen thanks to my doctor who practices both western and natural medicine.  I began taking 65 mg of iron twice a day with 500 mg of Vitamin C to help with absorption, 5000 iu of Vitamin D up from 2000, I use a natural progesterone cream the second half of my cycle, I started taking Drenamin for my adrenal support, and drinking beet juices (blood builder) with cilantro and parsley to remove heavy metals from the blood, along with my other supplements.

Finally,  after four months of feeling ill, I am beginning to feel like myself again! The last two weeks have been amazing, and this past weekend I just knew I was getting well again.  I woke up and wanted to take the kids to Knotts Berry Farm, and the following day I took them to the beach after church.  Both of those activities would have been too overwhelming and exhausting for me to handle.  It is so true what they say, with out your health, you have nothing.  There were times where I just wanted to give up… on this blog, on my family, on myself.  It blows my mind how something can really damage your health this way.

Now, I am not against cleansing or doing a detox.  I will do a juice or smoothie cleanse periodically, but never again, will I put my body through something so hard.  21 days is a long time.  Yes, it may be fine for some, but I HIGHLY suggest, getting a FULL WORKUP from your doctor prior to starting any major cleanse like the Ultimate Reset.  I am sure I had a few issues prior to beginning.  Maybe I was already a little anemic, but I am certain it pushed me over the edge and it was not healthy for my body.  Is it for you?  That is for you to decide, but I do not feel I can feel good about promoting this system with what it did for me.

Why [short-term] Cleansing is good.  I love this diagram…

What are toxins and where do toxins come from?

According to Keela Ewers from, “We are exposed to more pollution today than any other period in history. During the past 100 years, approximately 75,000 new chemicals have been released into our environment.”  This is not something our bodies were made to handle.  Yes, our liver and kidneys were made to flush our systems, but with the addition of pesticides, herbicides, drug use, tobacco use, diet foods, preservatives, chemicals in your cosmetics, toxic cookware, pollution, artificial ingredients, chemicals added in our water, it is an over load for our bodies and they accumulate and get stored in our body fat.

  1. So sorry to hear how terribly this effected you! I can tell you’re feeling better, and I see your passion when you’re with your beautiful family! I love the diagram of cleansing versus dieting you included! I’ve been thinking about doing a juice cleanse, is there any one in particular you would recommend?

    1. Hi Jayde! Thank you so much! I wrote another article on cleansing, which I included the link at the bottom of this post. I give an example of a green smoothie cleanse to do for three days. I will plan on doing a post specifically on cleansing with recipes in the future here as well.

  2. Thank you for the review. It is nice to hear an honest experience. I am sorry it didn’t work out so well for you and glad you are feeling yourself again 🙂
