Naturally Made… Split Pea Soup

Growing up we did a lot of road trips. One of the family favorites was to drive up the coast to Pismo Beach! The very famous Anderson’s Split Pea Soup was and still is a must stop.  Split Pea Soup is so delicious and is packed with protein, fiber, is a perfect addition to any meal or to eat as an entrée!  Here is my favorite all natural, naturally made vegetarian Split Pea Soup recipe…

Naturally Made… Split Pea Soup

Ingredients

  • 1 bag of split Peas (2 cups)
  • 2 qts of filtered water
  • 1 branch of celery
  • 2 large unpeeled carrots
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 1/4 tsp thyme
  • 1 pinch of cayenne
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Optional Toppings

  • Real Cheddar Cheese
  • Nitrate Free bacon or Turkey Bacon
  • Green onions
  • Ham pieces

Add all ingredients to a large pot.

Boil hard for 20 min, then reduce to a simmer until peas are tender. About an hour total to let the flavors release.

Remove bay leaf.  Using a hand held mixer, puree. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
